Products Description
Ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber is a copolymer composed of ethylene, propylene, and a third monomer. It offers excellent resistance to ozone, weathering, heat, and low temperatures, along with superior electrical insulation properties and permeability similar to that of natural rubber.
However, its self-adhesion, cold flow characteristics, and processability are relatively inferior compared to binary EPDM rubber.
EPDM rubber is widely used in the production of open-cell and closed-cell foams with various hardness levels, as well as automotive gaskets, glass sealing strips, radiator hoses, bridge vibration damping pads, tire sidewalls and inner tubes, and wire and cable sheathing, among other applications.

Properties
Ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber's main chain is composed of chemically stable saturated hydrocarbons, containing only unsaturated double bonds in its side chains, thus essentially classifying it as a saturated rubber. Due to the absence of polar substituents within its molecular structure and low intermolecular cohesive energy, the molecular chain maintains flexibility over a wide temperature range. The chemical structure of EPDM gives its vulcanized products unique properties.
1. Low density and high filler capacity:
EPDM rubber is a low-density rubber with a density of 0.87. Combined with the ability to be heavily oiled and filled with fillers, this reduces the cost of rubber products, compensating for the high price of raw EPDM rubber.
2. Excellent aging resistance:
EPDM rubber exhibits excellent weather resistance, ozone resistance, heat resistance, acid and alkali resistance, water vapor resistance, color stability, electrical properties, oil endowment, and room temperature flowability. EPDM rubber products can be used continuously at 120°C and intermittently or briefly at 150–200°C. Adding suitable antioxidants can increase its service temperature.
3. Corrosion Resistance:
Due to its lack of polarity and low unsaturation, ethylene propylene rubber (EPR) exhibits good resistance to various polar chemicals such as alcohols, acids, alkalis, oxidants, refrigerants, detergents, animal and vegetable oils, ketones, and esters.
4. Water Vapor Resistance:
EPR has excellent water vapor resistance, surpassing its heat resistance. After nearly 100 hours in superheated steam at 230°C, there is no change in appearance.
5. Superheated Water Resistance:
EPR also exhibits good resistance to superheated water, but this is closely related to the vulcanization system used.
6. Electrical Properties:
EPR possesses excellent electrical insulation properties and corona resistance, with electrical properties superior to or approaching those of styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CLL), polyethylene, and cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE).
7. Elasticity:
EPDM rubber has no polar substituents in its molecular structure, resulting in low cohesive energy. Its molecular chains maintain flexibility over a wide range, second only to natural rubber and butadiene rubber, and retain this flexibility even at low temperatures.
8. Adhesion:
Due to the lack of active groups in its molecular structure and low cohesive energy, EPDM rubber is prone to blooming, resulting in poor self-adhesion and mutual adhesion.
