1-Hexanol is a colorless liquid with a boiling point of 157°C and a relative density of 0.819. It is miscible with ethanol, propylene glycol, and oils. The compound has a light green aroma reminiscent of young leaves and branches, with subtle notes of wine, fruit, and fatty nuances.
Hexanol and its carboxylic acid esters naturally occur in trace amounts in citrus fruits, berries, and other plant sources. It is also found in tea leaves, geranium oil, various lavender oils, and essential oils from banana, apple, strawberry, violet leaf, and many other botanical origins.

Product Application
1-Hexanol is widely used as a flavoring base and in the formulation of essential oils, such as geranium oil, where it contributes to top-note characteristics. It is also used in trace amounts in violet, osmanthus, magnolia, and ylang-ylang fragrances to enhance or impart a fresh green and delicate aroma.
In food flavor applications, it is added in very small amounts to coconut, berry, and various fruit flavor formulations. It is also used as a solvent and analytical reagent, and in the pharmaceutical industry for the preparation of preservatives and sedative-related products.
According to GB2760-86 regulations in China, it is an approved edible flavoring substance, primarily used in coconut and berry flavor formulations. In addition, it is applied in the production of surfactants, plasticizers, and fatty alcohols, and serves as a reagent in chromatographic analysis as well as in various organic synthesis processes.
