Product Description
Polyethylene oxide (PEO) is a linear polyether whose physical form varies with the degree of polymerization, appearing as a liquid, oily substance, waxy material, or solid powder, with colors ranging from white to slightly yellow.
Solid PEO powder typically has a polymerization degree of n ≥ 300, a softening point of 65–67°C, and a brittle point of -50°C, and it demonstrates thermoplastic behavior. Lower molecular weight PEO exists as a viscous liquid and is soluble in water.
The material is soluble in a wide range of organic solvents, including alcohols, ketones, chloroform, glycerides, and aromatic hydrocarbons, while it is insoluble in diethyl ether and n-hexane.

Product Application
Polyethylene oxide (PEO) can be used to modify drug proteins, thereby protecting drug molecules and extending their half-life. It also functions as a cell fusion agent by promoting adhesion between adjacent cell membranes, enabling cells to fuse into a single cell. In addition, it can be used as an osmotic laxative. A common dosage form is a powder with a molecular weight of 3350, typically administered orally at 17 g dissolved in water per day for the treatment of constipation.
PEO is a water-soluble, thermoplastic, nonionic linear polymer with properties such as flocculation, thickening, sustained release, lubrication, dispersion, retention, and water retention. It is non-toxic and non-irritating, and is widely used in industries including papermaking, coatings, inks, textile printing and dyeing, and daily chemicals.
Polyethylene oxide (PEO) generally refers to products with a relative molecular mass of 200–20,000, which are viscous liquids or waxy solids, while polyethylene oxide (PEO) refers to products with a relative molecular mass greater than 1 × 10⁵. These resins have a low concentration of active terminal groups and no significant end-group reactivity. They are widely applied in papermaking, coatings, inks, textile printing and dyeing, and daily chemical industries, benefiting from their multifunctional properties such as flocculation, thickening, controlled release, lubrication, dispersion, retention, and water retention.
