Product Description
The crystal lattice structure of anatase titanium dioxide is tetragonal. Due to its lower packing fraction, anatase exhibits lower hardness and a lower refractive index than rutile. However, because the lattice energies of anatase and rutile are relatively similar, anatase can remain metastable for extended periods despite being less thermodynamically stable. When heated above 700°C, anatase undergoes a rapid and irreversible monotropic transformation into rutile. From an optical perspective, anatase provides greater transparency in the near-UV range compared to rutile.
Titanium(IV) oxide is widely used in UV-resistant fabrics, skin protection creams, facial cleansers, cream emulsions, and powder cosmetics. It is also extensively applied as a photocatalyst, as well as in self-cleaning glass, self-cleaning ceramics, antibacterial materials, air purification, wastewater treatment, and various chemical processes.
