Product Description
Ethylene glycol is the simplest aliphatic diol and displays typical alcoholic chemical properties. It is capable of undergoing reactions including ether and ester formation, oxidation to acids or aldehydes, ether condensation, and halogen substitution. Upon reaction with acyl chlorides or anhydrides, it predominantly yields diesters.
Under catalytic heating conditions (e.g., manganese dioxide, aluminum oxide, zinc oxide, or sulfuric acid), ethylene glycol may undergo intermolecular or intramolecular dehydration to generate cyclic ethylene glycol acetal. It can further react with nitric acid to produce ethylene glycol dinitrate, an explosive compound.

Product Application
Ethylene glycol is primarily applied as a raw material for manufacturing polyester fibers, along with other polyester resins, unsaturated polyester resins, and 1730 polyester coatings. It can also be utilized for producing a range of surfactants, including ethylene glycol and polyethylene glycol derivatives.
Its dinitro derivative, ethylene glycol dinitrate, is an explosive compound. Furthermore, ethylene glycol finds extensive application as an antifreeze agent, owing to its capacity to reduce the freezing point of aqueous solutions.
