Hydroxyethyl methylcellulose (HEMC), also known as methyl hydroxyethyl cellulose (MHEC), is produced from natural renewable polymers such as wood pulp or refined cotton. It is a non-ionic cellulose ether obtained through the modification of methylcellulose with ethylene oxide.
HEMC typically appears as a white to off-white, odorless powder. It is considered safe for all animal species and is environmentally friendly. Its primary applications include tile adhesives, dry-mix mortars, joint fillers, wall putty/skim coats, self-leveling flooring compounds, gypsum plasters, and EIFS (Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems).
