2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic Acid is widely used as a herbicide and plant growth regulator. It also serves as a reference standard for the determination of carbon and hydrogen in organic microanalysis.

In addition, it can be used as a preservative and may be combined with other disinfectants. It has also been reported to provide limited control of stem rot in citrus fruits.
