Product Description
Calcium Stearate CAS#1592-23-0 Calcium stearate, also named calcium octadecanoate, appears as an off-white crystalline powder. Its chemical formula is (C₁₇H₃₅COO)₂Ca with a molecular weight of 607.00.
It features a melting point of 179–180 °C and decomposes when subjected to continued heating. This compound is insoluble in water, cold ethanol and diethyl ether. However, it dissolves in hot benzene and toluene as well as turpentine, while being slightly soluble in hot ethanol and hot diethyl ether.
Calcium stearate reacts with strong acids to yield stearic acid and corresponding calcium salts. It is hygroscopic and resistant to lipolytic microorganisms. Thermal pyrolysis of calcium stearate may produce stearone, ketones and hydrocarbons.
